Growing up with entrepreneur parents

lego-american-gothicWhen I was a kid, my mom owned a barber shop for 23 years. My dad had a dynamic solar project, a juggling kit and eventually became an amazingly successful artist.

My mom was in business and my dad is an entrepreneur.  Not to place a higher value on one over another, but there is a difference.  My mom had a service, a system and over time sold the system/business, retired and has a second business. She manages a the Bread of Life rescue mission in Holbrook, Arizona. Again, she has a service and a system.

My dad is a very different person. My dad is a creative genius (see davemerrick.us) . He has a product, his art. People pay a lot of money for him to make an exclusive product that their families with enjoy for generations. It was summer of 1997 when I realized the magnitude of my father’s market saturation. At SkyHarbor airport, his painting was on the tail of a Boeing 747.

Both of my parents are successful in their own right. Mom shelters thousands of homeless families, battered women with terrified children hiding behind their legs. My dad’s wolf is in Captain Phil’s stateroom on Discovery channel’s Deadliest Catch.

My goal is to develop both aspects in my development. I am striving to create a system that is profitable and gives me the resources to be as creative as I can.

Both of you have been a tremendous influence in my life and I thank you for it.
